According to Romagiallorossa.it, sources close to Nicolo Zaniolo have ‘categorically denied’ that AS Roma are negotiating the player’s potential sale to Tottenham this summer.
The speculation linking Zaniolo with a move to Tottenham has hit a fever pitch over the last couple of weeks.
90 min claimed last week that Spurs are refusing to give up on the winger while CalcioMercato subsequently reported that Antonio Conte’s ‘craze’ to sign the 23-year-old is ‘unbearable’ for the Spurs hierarchy.
Both Calciomercato.it and AS Roma Live have alleged over recent days that Roma informed Tottenham the Italy international would cost €50m (£42.1m) and the North London club will decide over the coming days whether to make such an offer.
However, if Romagiallorossa.it’s update is to be believed, sources close to Zaniolo have denied that Roma are in talks about selling the winger.
The report asserts that the player is set to stay put at the Stadio Olimpico for another season ‘at the behest of Jose Mourinho’.
Spurs Web Opinion
It is difficult to know at this point what to believe, given the contradictory reports emerging from Italy regarding Zaniolo. However, if Spurs were on the fence on whether to pay £42m for the 23-year-old, I suspect that Kulusevski’s impressive display on Saturday might have convinced them against doing so.
