Report reveals what Spurs plan to do before making Timo Werner decision

According to The Times, Tottenham Hotspur will explore moves for other attackers this summer before making a decision on whether to sign Timo Werner.

Werner’s future remains up in the air after the forward’s loan spell at Spurs came to a premature end when he suffered a hamstring injury in the North London Derby.

Tottenham have the option to sign the 28-year-old permanently for £15m, with the option clause being valid until June 15 (TEAMtalk).

When asked about the German’s situation, Ange Postecoglou said last week that a decision on the forward’s future will only be made at the end of the season depending on Tottenham’s overall summer plans (Football.London).

However, a couple of days ago, journalist Pete O’Rourke said on Football Insider the on-loan RB Leipzig man has not done enough to convince Postecoglou and that he has seen his chance of a permanent deal ‘go up in smoke’.

Spurs will shop around before signing Werner

If The Telegraph’s latest update is to be believed, even though the former Chelsea man has been a useful contributor for Spurs, the club are not in a hurry to make a decision on him.

The report says that the Lilywhites will explore moves for other attacking targets before deciding whether to activate the permanent clause to buy Werner.

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham’s decision on Werner will likely depend on how much of the transfer budget the club want to spend on a number eight and a number six and perhaps a centre-forward.

If Spurs make some big-money additions in those departments, they might settle for Werner for the wide forward role. Conversely, if Spurs land someone like Conor Gallagher on a relative discount, they might decide to pass up on Werner and spend big on a winger such as Nico Williams.
