Report reveals what Spurs source has said regarding Memphis Depay speculation

According to Football Insider, a Tottenham source has denied that Memphis Depay is on the North London club’s radar ahead of the summer transfer window.

Although Depay had a decent start to his career at Barcelona following his move to Camp Nou last summer, the striker has fallen down the pecking order since Xavi took over as the manager.

Mundo Deportivo claimed this week that the Netherlands international is of interest to several Premier League clubs, with Spurs currently the front-runners for the centre-forward’s signature.

The report asserted that the Catalan club had confirmed Tottenham’s interest in Depay and added that the Lilywhites could face competition from the likes of AC Milan, Juventus, Inter Milan and Napoli for the former Manchester United man.

However, Football Insider have claimed that while Spurs are expected to be in the market for a centre-forward this summer given the uncertainty around Harry Kane’s future, Depay is not on their wishlist.

A Tottenham source allegedly told the publication that the club are bemused by the speculation regarding a move for the Barca star.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is difficult to know which publication to believe as neither Mundo Deportivo nor Football Insider are particularly reliable when it comes to Spurs transfer news.

I believe Depay could prove a decent squad addition for Spurs due to his versatility. If we are after a backup to Kane, we likely will not be able to find too many better options than the Dutchman.
