Report reveals what Tottenham coaches already think about Cristian Romero

Cristian Romero has reportedly already made a big impression at Tottenham and the club’s coaches feel he could become one of the top five central defenders in the Premier League, according to The Athletic.

Romero, 23, has endured a mixed start to life at Spurs since making the move to North London from Atalanta last summer.

He suffered a long-term hamstring injury on international duty with Argentina, which ruled him out of contention for the hectic festive schedule between November and February.

But his return has proved to be a boost for Antonio Conte, with his recent display against Manchester City powering Spurs to a surprise 3-2 victory at the home of the champions.

Unfortunately, the central defender could not continue that fine form against Burnley last night, as he lost Ben Mee at the back post to see the Claret head home a 1-0 winner.

Despite this, The Athletic report that those at Spurs were confident in Romero’s abilities to become one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League on his arrival.

The report also mentions the Argentine has quickly developed into a leader in the dressing room despite his English not being up to scratch as of yet, with other players already looking up to him for inspiration.

Romero is currently on loan at Tottenham, but there is an expectation at the club that his £42.5 million buy-out clause will be exercised at the end of the season (Daily Mail).

Romero has his own unique way of defending but you can see why Tottenham are planning to shell out a large amount of money for him. As his English continues to improve we should start to see even more why plenty of players are looking up to him.
