Report reveals when Arsenal will make decision over Philippe Coutinho deal

The Express claim that Arsenal want to sign Willian as well as Philippe Coutinho this summer, two players who were also said to be on Tottenham’s radar.

Willian had been linked with Tottenham over the past few months, with the North Londoners at one point even being established as the favourites to sign him (Mundo Deportivo).

Spurs have also reportedly considered a loan deal for Coutinho, who looks to be on his way out of the Camp Nou (Daily Mail).

The Express now claim that Willian is currently in negotiations with the Gunners after he rejected Chelsea’s latest contract offer.

The Gunners are expected to complete a deal for the 31-year-old soon and it is said that they will then shift their focus to getting Coutinho.

The former Liverpool midfielder is said to be keen on a return to the Premier League and it is claimed that Mikel Arteta’s side will make a decision on whether they can afford his wages once they have the Willian deal agreed.

The report asserts that Barcelona would prefer any loan move for Coutinho to come with an obligation to buy him next summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

It does not appear as if we are going after Willian. I would have thought that he would have been a useful squad option to have and that we would have been in for him given the relationship Jose has with the Brazilian. I have been extremely unimpressed with what I have seen of Coutinho recently. His confidence looks shattered and he seems to have lost the ability to go past players. A move to the Premier League could revive him but it would be an expensive gamble to take.
