Report reveals when Spurs actually started negotiations with Mourinho representatives

Tottenham Hotspur moved swiftly to announce the appointment of Jose Mourinho as their new manager just hours after Mauricio Pochettino was sacked by the club.

Some fans were left quite surprised by how quickly the whole deal went through and a report from Sky Sports has now shed light on how it happened.

The deal was reportedly orchestrated by Israeli Super-agent Pini Zahavi, the same man who took Neymar to Paris St Germain in a world record £190m.

Zahavi, who was also responsible for bringing Mourinho to Chelsea in 2004, was reportedly the driving force behind the deal.

The report claims that Daniel Levy had started negotiating with Zahivi following Tottenham’s 1-1 draw at home to Watford more than three weeks ago.

Negotiations continued since then and it was reportedly only in the last week that Levy and Mourinho had met face to face to hash out a deal.

While Spurs were said to be considering Massimiliano Allegri, Julian Nagelsmann and Thomas Tuchel for the role too, Daniel Levy reportedly became convinced during the negotiations that Mourinho was the man to help build the winning mentality that was lacking at the club.

The decision to give Mourinho the job despite his failure at Manchester United might seem like a risky one but in truth no appointment guarantees success. Of the options available to him, it looks like Levy has picked the manager who is the safest bet for success in the near future.
