Report reveals when Spurs could announce Fonseca as new manager

According to the latest reports from the Portuguese press, it is now only a matter of time before Tottenham officially confirm the appointment of Paulo Fonseca.

The rumours of Fonseca’s arrival have understandably not been met with much enthusiasm from some Spurs fans after the manner in which Tottenham’s pursuit of Antonio Conte unravelled last week.

However, based on the news emerging out of Portugal, the former Roma boss’ arrival now looks evitable.

Sport Witness have compiled the latest on what is being reported regarding Tottenham’s pursuit of Fonseca back in the 48-year-old’s home country.

A Bola have reportedly said that only details are left for a full agreement to be reached, with Fonseca having met Daniel Levy to ‘discuss the contract and other more practical subjects related to the coming season.’

The publication backs Fonseca’s appointment to be announced next week after Fabio Paratici is confirmed as the club’s new sporting director.

Meanwhile, Jornal de Notícias claim that negotiations are ‘very advanced’ and O Jogo claim that agreement between the parties could be reached in ‘little time’.

Spurs Web Opinion

There is no doubt that Fonseca’s appointment is an underwhelming one on the back of the club’s failed pursuit of Pochettino and Conte. It is clear that Levy has trusted Paratici’s judgement as the Roma boss was clearly not at the top of the North London club’s original wishlist.

I am not as downbeat as some Spurs fans seem to be about the appointment. The 48-year-old will get the team playing the brand of football that we want to see and just because things did not work for him at Roma, does not mean that he will not be the right fit for Spurs.
