Report reveals when Tottenham first approached Antonio Conte

The Daily Mail have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur sounded out Antonio Conte on Sunday night before sacking Nuno Espirito Santo.

Spurs confirmed this morning that they had parted ways with Nuno and his coaching staff after just four months in charge.

According to The Athletic, Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici had a meeting on Sunday where they decided to sack Nuno before informing the Portuguese coach of their decision this morning.

The likes of Pedro Almeida and Sky Italia are now reporting that Antonio Conte is set to replace Nuno at the helm at Spurs after the Premier League club reached an agreement with the Italian.

While The Mail have not said that Conte is a ‘done deal’ as of yet, they claim that there is growing optimism at the North London club that the Italian will take over.

They also revealed that following Tottenham’s failure to strike a deal with Conte over the summer, the club once again initiated contact with the Italian on Sunday night ‘hours before’ their decision to sack Nuno.

If it is true that Spurs made contact with Conte’s entourage before pulling the plug on Nuno, that suggests that the club are confident that a deal for the Italian can be completed. Otherwise, they would have likely waited longer before sacking the Portuguese coach.
