Report reveals where Fonseca ranked on Spurs’ original manager shortlist

Tottenham Hotspur’s search for a new head coach hit the 50-day mark earlier this week with a successor to Jose Mourinho still yet to be announced.

Sky Sports revealed on Wednesday night that Tottenham have turned their attentions to Paulo Fonseca and are currently in advanced talks with the former AS Roma manager.

The Daily Mail have now shed some light on exactly where Fonseca appeared on Tottenham’s shopping list for a new head coach and found himself behind quite a few other targets following Mourinho’s dismissal in sixth place.

RB Leipzig’s Julian Nagelsmann was one of the top targets before he moved to Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich, while Brendan Rodgers made it clear he had no intention of leaving Leicester City.

Ajax’s Erik ten Hag was also a consideration, while Daniel Levy also turned his attention to former boss Mauricio Pochettino and later former Inter Milan boss Antonio Conte.

Fonseca, however is said to be top of Fabio Paratici’s list when it comes to the former Juventus man heading up the search for the vacant position (Independent).

Tottenham’s managerial search has been a complete PR disaster having built up the hopes of many fans with the prospect of a high-profile appointment in either Pochettino or Conte and there appears now to be an underwhelming expectation of the Fonseca taking charge.
