Report reveals whether Ndombele is likely to remain at Lyon next season

The print edition of L’Equipe (22/03/22 edition – as relayed by Sport Witness) have revealed that Tanguy Ndombele’s current salary might scupper any chances of Lyon signing the midfielder permanently from Tottenham in the summer.

Ndombele returned to Lyon on loan on transfer deadline day, with the Ligue 1 club having the option to make the deal permanent for £54m (Sky Sports).

After a terrific start to his second spell at the Groupama Stadium, some of the midfielder’s displays over the last few weeks have been under par.

L’Equipe have now shed a light on the specifics of the Frenchman’s salary at Lyon. They explain that the Ligue 1 club are paying the 25-year-old €350k per month (£291k), with Spurs topping up that up with another €150k (£124k).

The player is thus said to be taking a wage cut of around €100k (£83k) compared to what he was being paid at Tottenham.

The report goes on to add that Ndombele is not ‘destined to stay’ at Lyon beyond the end of the season, ‘especially not at those conditions’.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is unlikely that Ndombele would take a major wage cut to seal a permanent return to Lyon in the summer. Spurs would be hoping that PSG reignite their interest in the 25-year-old as the Ligue 1 giants are one of the few clubs around Europe who are capable of matching his current salary.
