Report reveals who Conte wants to partner Bissouma with in Spurs midfield

Tottenham are hoping to pair expected incoming Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma alongside Rodrigo Bentancur next season, according to ESPN.

Spurs have reportedly agreed a £25 million deal to sign the 25-year-old, who is set to undergo a medical at the club’s Hotspur Way training centre this week (The Times).

The Times add that Bissouma was of interest to Spurs in January but the club were unable to finalise a fee with the Seagulls, who are now on the verge of offloading the Mali international with one year left on his current contract.

With Bissouma set to become Antonio Conte’s third summer signing after free transfers Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster, he will join a growing list of names in central midfield.

ESPN now report that Tottenham hope to partner him next to the Uruguayan international Bentancur with the plan for Conte to build a Premier League title-contending side.

The 24-year-old arrived at Spurs in the January transfer window and became a key player in the club’s surge into the Champions League by forming a strong partnership with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

The same report also mentions Bissouma’s arrival will likely coincide with the exit of Harry Winks, who has been given the green light to secure a move away from the club over the summer (Evening Standard).

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham’s move to bring in Bissouma is a statement of intent that they want to really compete under Conte, and his acquisition will go some way to doing that.

He is an excellent player that will immediately upgrade things in the middle of the pitch, but he will also allow Conte to be more flexible with how he structures the midfield.
