The Athletic have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur look set to sell Emerson Royal this summer.

The Evening Standard’s Dan Kilpatrick reported this week that after making six new signings so far during the transfer window, Tottenham are now focused on selling the players who are surplus to requirements.

Apart from the four players who did not travel to South Korea – Giovani Lo Celso, Tanguy Ndombele, Harry Winks and Sergio Reguilon – Kilpatrick also said that the likes of Japhet Tanganga, Joe Rodon and Bryan Gil will depart.

The journalist suggested that one of Matt Doherty or Emerson will also be sold following the arrival of Djed Spence from Middlesbrough.

While Emerson has been with moves to Atletico Madrid (AS) and AS Roma (Express) and Juventus ( this summer, there have also been some suggestions that Antonio Conte wishes to hold on to the 23-year-old (Ekrem Konur).

However, The Athletic have now claimed that the former Real Betis man is likely to be the right-back who is sacrificed by the north London club, with the report stating that he is ‘poised to leave’.

Choosing who to sell between Doherty and Emerson is a no-brainer. While Doherty showed last season that he is a competent wing-back, Emerson does not offer enough going forward to play in such an advanced role.
