Report reveals who Spurs-linked Dayot Upamecano would prefer to sign for

Tottenham Hotspur have been handed a blow in their efforts to sign RB Leipzig centre-half, Dayot Upamecano, as the latest reports from France suggest that the defender prefers a move to Bayern Munich.

Upamecano has come on leaps and bounds since moving to Leipzig and his performances have reportedly seen many clubs take an interest in the defender (France Football).

Don Balon (via TEAMtalk) revealed last month that Jose Mourinho was keen on bringing the 21-year-old to North London. The Express claimed earlier this week that Manchester United have also made the Frenchman their top defensive target this summer.

However, Foot Mercato now report that Upamecano would prefer to move to Bayern Munich this summer if the Bavarians wanted him.

The report asserts that his compatriots at Bayern have launched a ‘seduction operation’ to try to convince the young defender to come to the Allianz Arena, and it seems to be working.

However, they suggest that the reigning Bundesliga champions need to move quickly to complete the deal as many foreign clubs are interested in meeting the Upamecano’s €58 million release clause.

Spurs Web Opinion

Contrary to what many Spurs fans seem to think, I don’t believe the club is prioritising a move for a centre-back this summer. Even if Vertonghen leaves (which is far from certain), we still have a decent array of options in Alderweireld, Sanchez, Dier, and Tanganga, with Davies also capable of filling in.
