Report reveals why 23-year-old rejected multiple chances to leave Spurs in January

Estadio Deportivo have claimed that Bryan Gil chose to stay at Tottenham as he was not interested in another loan move and instead preferred a permanent transfer, which did not materialise.

Gil had left on loan to Valencia and Sevilla during the previous two January window and it came as a surprise to some when the winger stayed put at Hotspur Way last month.

Estadio Deportivo say that the 23-year-old received several loan offers in the winter market but rejected those and ‘chose to stay’ at Tottenham. This is because the Spaniard wanted a long-term solution than a loan, which did not happen during the January transfer window.

Bryan Gil wants to feel secure in his future

The report says that Gil was ‘seduced’ by the prospect of returning to Sevilla last month but the Andalusian club were not willing to meet Spurs’ asking price of €7m-€8m (£6m-£6.8m).

The publication suggests that the wide player is not likely to get much game time at North London, which is why ‘everything points to a summer exit’ for him.

It is alleged that while there will be no shortage of interest in Gil’s services at the end of the season, Tottenham will not be able to recover the bulk of the fee they paid for the player.

Spurs Web Opinion

Gil’s decision to stay in January did seem a little bizarre as he was never going to get any game time at Spurs. Perhaps, the youngster now just feels settled in London and at the club, given the number of Spanish speakers in the Tottenham first-team squad. I would expect him to return to La Liga at the end of the season.
