Report reveals why Carlos Vinicius was not in matchday squad against Liverpool

Football.London have revealed that Carlos Vinicius was fully fit and available for Tottenham’s trip to Anfield on Wednesday and that Jose Mourinho simply decided not to include him in the matchday squad.

The Brazilian has made a decent start to his loan spell at Spurs since arriving from Benfica, scoring thrice and registering three assists in his five matches for the club so far.

However, almost all of Vinicius minutes have come in the Europa League, with Mourinho often preferring to rest Harry Kane in the competition.

The 25-year-old’s only Premier League appearance came in Tottenham’s 1-0 win at West Brom in November as he came on as a late substitute with the Lilywhites chasing the game.

Even though he has made only a solitary appearance in the league this season, he has been a regular on the Tottenham bench and so it was a surprise not to see his name included in Spurs’ matchday squad on Wednesday.

Football.London has now revealed that the striker was available for selection but Mourinho decided not to name him on the bench since he had too many options to fit in.

Given that the likes of Gareth Bale and Erik Lamela were not fit for the clash, it is surprising that Vinicius did not make the bench despite being fit. Perhaps Dele Alli’s inclusion in the Brazilian’s expense is a sign that Mourinho is prepared to offer the England international a route back into the team if he can show his quality.
