Report reveals why Harry Winks has still not made his Sampdoria debut

Harry Winks is yet to make his debut for Sampdoria after joining on loan from Spurs at the end of the summer transfer window.

Football London report that Winks was introduced to the Sampdoria crowd over a week ago following a 1-1 draw with Lazio, but he has not been able to take to the pitch yet.

The Spurs academy graduate missed out on the squad to face Verona last weekend, with Sampdoria falling to a 2-1 defeat on Sunday. Winks is also not in the squad to face AC Milan this weekend (Sampdoria).

CalcioMercato have now reported that this is due to an ankle injury the Tottenham midfielder is carrying, while Winks is also said to be lacking in physical fitness after missing out on Conte’s pre-season training regime.

Fabrizio Romano reported that Tottenham and Sampdoria included an option to buy fee in the loan deal this summer, with the Serie A club having to pay €25m if they want him permanently.

Spurs Web Opinion:

I don’t see Sampdoria as the end goal for Winks in the long-term. I think the best case scenario for him this season is to showcase his skills on the ball in Serie A, then come back and make a move to the likes of Southampton or Brighton in the Premier League.
