Report reveals why Serge Aurier’s future could depend on Max Aarons

The Daily Mail have revealed that AC Milan are still in talks with Serge Aurier this summer but are also looking at Norwich City’s Max Aarons as an alternative to the Ivory Coast international at right back.

Aurier was a regular in the Spurs side under Jose Mourinho last season but has started only once in five matches so far this campaign after the arrival of Matt Doherty from Wolves.

Reports indicated that he was one of a number of players which Tottenham are looking to cash-in on before the transfer window shuts (The Athletic’s David Ornstein).

RMC Sport reported last week that Spurs and Milan held talks over Aurier last Thursday despite the right-back playing all ninety minutes in the Lilywhites 3-1 against Shkendija the same evening.

The Mail now claim that while the Serie A giants are still interested in the Tottenham defender, they could instead decide to move for Aarons should the Norwich man become available.

Aarons is also said to be on Barcelona’s and Roma’s radar, with the youngster waiting to see if a move to the Catalan giants materialises.

Spurs Web Opinion

With Reguilon and Davies battling out for the left-back spot, and Tanganga covering for Doherty at right-back, Jose has both attacking and defensive options at his disposal in both full-back areas. If Spurs do let Aurier leave without bringing someone else in, that could be a huge vote of confidence in Tanganga from Mourinho. I cannot really see the Spurs boss trusting Gedson to play at right-back against Premier League quality opposition.
