Report reveals why Spurs could earn over a million from the World Cup

It has emerged that Tottenham could be earning over a million from the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, with The Daily Mail reporting that FIFA will pay teams around £9,000 per player for each day that they spend at the tournament.

Based on the players who were called up for international duty last month, Tottenham are expected to have a total of 13 players in Qatar, including the ones out on loan.

Harry Kane, Eric Dier, Hugo Lloris, Pierre-Emile Hojbjrg, Son Heung-min, Richarlison, Ivan Perisic, Cristian Romero, Giovani Lo Celso, Pape Matar Sarr, Rodrigo Bentancur, Ben Davies and Joe Rodon are expected to link up with their national squads for the tournament.

Spurs could thus be in line to earn millions, with The Mail revealing that FIFA will pay clubs for the time their contracted players spend at the tournament as per their club benefits programme.

It is explained that in 2018, global football’s governing body paid out £6,440 per player per day to clubs and the amount has now increased to £9,012 per day.

The Mail explain that Chelsea and Manchester United could be the biggest beneficiaries, with the two clubs potentially having 20 and 18 players in Qatar respectively.

I do not think these sorts of amounts will make much of a difference to Premier League clubs, given the various revenue streams they have.

So, if it were up to the Spurs hierarchy, I am sure they will prefer to have their players back at the club as soon as possible even though they might stand to earn more from FIFA if their players progress further in the tournament.
