Report: Right-back target has ‘almost everything done with Tottenham’ in transfer

Reports from Spain are now suggesting that a deal to bring Thomas Meunier to Tottenham Hotspur this summer is almost completed.

Meunier’s contract with Paris Saint-Germain runs out in the summer and 90 Min reported at the start of the month that Tottenham were interested in snapping up the defender when he becomes a free agent.

L’Equipe (via by GFFN) reported last week that PSG had no intention of handing the experienced right-back a new contract as he was not in Thomas Tuchel’s plans for next season.

Spanish publication Sport (as relayed by Sport Witness) have now provided an update on the transfer and suggest that the Belgian international is North London bound.

The report discusses Barcelona’s hunt for a new right-back, with Nelson Semedo said to be on his way out. They suggest that the Catalans would be open to the idea of bringing Meunier in.

However, they reveal that it won’t be possible for Barca to sign the 28-year-old as he has ‘almost everything done with Tottenham’.

Spurs Web Opinion

I suspect most Spurs fans wouldn’t be too thrilled if we sign Meunier and would have preferred Max Aarons or Youcef Atal. However, it is important to recognise the difficult financial situations clubs are in at the moment. We will likely have limited funds in the summer and thus have to prioritise some targets over others. Aarons may well have been the club’s first choice but they may have decided to sign Meunier on a free transfer and invest that money elsewhere.
