Report: Right-back which Spurs have enquired about could be sold this summer

According to reports from Spain, Tottenham Hotspur are one of a number of clubs around Europe who have enquired about the Barcelona right-back Emerson, who is currently on loan at Real Betis.

As revealed by Sport Witness, Barcelona and Betis worked out a unique deal to sign the Brazilian last summer as they each paid €6 million for the full-back, with the Catalans agreeing to loan the defender to Betis until the summer of 2021.

However, the Catalan giants do have the option of cutting short the loan deal as long as they are willing to compensate Betis for the €6 million they paid.

The right-back has had an impressive first year in Spanish football and it is suggested that he has caught the attention clubs from outside of La Liga.

The Sun reported last month that Tottenham were interested in the 21-year-old and Diario de Sevilla have now offered an update on the full-back’s future.

They reveal that Barca have informed Betis that Spurs, Bayer Leverkusen and Inter Milan have made enquiries over Emerson.

It is said that the Catalan giants will sell the full-back if their asking price is met, in which case Betis will not only be owed the €6 million they paid for him last summer but instead net a percentage of the transfer fee that Barca receive.

Spurs Web Opinion

While Emerson looks like a decent prospect, this deal sounds like it would be extremely complicated for us to pull off. I suspect the 21-year-old is lower down the list of our right-back targets as we have also been quite heavily linked with the likes of Castagne, Aarons and Meunier.
