Report: Roma are ready to pounce on 28-year-old if Spurs do not sign him

I Love Palermo Calcio have reported that AS Roma are plotting a move for Timo Werner this summer if Tottenham decide against signing the forward permanently.

Werner has had a positive impact since his loan switch to Spurs from RB Leipzig in January, although he has been guilty of missing some big chances in front of goal.

Various outlets have claimed over the past few weeks that the Lilywhites are expected to activate the £15.5m option to the 28-year-old him permanently in June, with the player thought to have impressed those at Hotspur Way with he settled into the environment (GiveMeSport).

Roma ready to pounce on Timo Werner

According to an update by I Love Palermo Calcio, Roma are now ready to make a move to sign Werner if Tottenham decide against activating the option to buy.

It is explained that the Gialorossi hierarchy have decided against signing Romelu Lukaku permanently as they deem him to be too expensive and they are now searching for alternatives.

The report says that Werner has emerged as a potential option for the Serie A side, who believe that the player can be signed on a discount.

The publication adds that Leipzig want to get rid of the German international and if Spurs decide against signing him, Roma would be prepared to offer the forward a platform to relaunch his career.

Spurs Web Opinion

I can understand why some Tottenham fans are sceptical of the idea of signing Werner as the on-loan Leipzig man remains quite profligate in front of goal.

However, there is no doubt that he would be a useful squad option to have, particularly given that we will be looking to compete on multiple fronts next season.
