Report: Roma chief insists Spurs target is not for sale this summer

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Roma winger, Nicolo Zaniolo, for weeks now, with Corriere dello Sport claiming that Spurs have made several offers for the youngster.

Zaniolo enjoyed an incredible season for the Italian side last time out, making an impressive 36 appearances and scoring six goals despite only being 20-years-old (Daily Star).

The latest rumour has been that Tottenham will bid £36m plus Toby Alderweireld for the Roma starlet (Calcio Mercato). This comes after Sky Sports claimed Spurs and Roma were in talks over a deal for the Belgian centre-back.

However, there has been another twist this week as Roma chief, Gianluca Petrachi, has claimed that Zaniolo is not for sale this summer (Sun).

He claims that he has never put the youngster up for sale and he has never claimed that Zaniolo is on the market, putting to bed any hopes of Spurs signing him.

Petrachi said (Sun): “I take this opportunity to say that when I appreciated Zaniolo with all the affection of this world to return to the tracks if he had left, it was immediately said that Petrachi put Zaniolo up for sale.
“This is not true.

“I have to work to try to get the best out of Zaniolo. I am also a very practical person, I have direct contact with my players.

“I never put Zaniolo up for sale, nor did I say it was on the market. The market is full of pitfalls, but today Zaniolo is not on the market.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

If this means that Tottenham will also be keeping Alderweireld for an extra year, then I am all for it. With Heung Min Son and Lucas Moura, as well as Jack Clarke next season, I don’t think Spurs need any extra wingers at this moment.
