Report: Roma confident rumoured Spurs target will sign a new deal

According to a report from Il Romanista, AS Roma are confident that rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Lorenzo Pellegrini will put pen to paper on a new contract.

While the central midfielder area might not be as much of a priority for Fabio Paratici to address as central defence, the North London club could look to strengthen the position this summer particularly given the question marks over the futures of Moussa Sissoko and Harry Winks

Pellegrini is one of the names who is rumoured to be on Spurs’ radar, with CalcioMercato reporting last month that the Lilywhites were ready to trigger the Italian international’s £25m release clause.

However, according to the latest information from Il Romanista, the midfielder does not want to leave the Stadio Olympico.

The report adds that new Roma boss Jose Mourinho sees the 25-year-old as an important part of his plans at the Italian capital.

Pellegrini, who missed out on the Azzuri squad for the European Championships due to a muscle injury, is expected to agree on a new deal with the Giallorossi for an annual salary of €4m (£3.4m) and no release clause.

Spurs Web Opinion

Pellegrini’s name has not really been mentioned as a target for Fabio Paratici in either the Italian and British press over recent weeks with links to the likes of Franck Kessie, Weston McKennie and Miralem Pjanic popping up instead. That could very well be because Spurs have given up their pursuit of the 25-year-old, knowing his intention to sign a new deal.
