Report: Roma favorites to sign rumoured Spurs target due to Mourinho facor

According to Italian publication Calcio Mercato, AS Roma’s appointment of Jose Mourinho has made the club the favourites to sign rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Andrea Belotti this summer.

Mourinho, who was sacked by Spurs last month, will be replacing Paulo Fonseca at the Stadio Olympico after Roma’s final game of the season against Spezia on Sunday.

It was reported last summer that Tottenham had an offer of around €50m (£46.3m) rejected by Torino for Belotti and the North Londoners have been backed to make another attempt to sign the experienced striker this summer (La Stampa via TuttoMercatoWeb).

Reports in the British press have even claimed that Spurs have been offered the chance to sign the Italian international for £25m, with the club potentially looking at him as a replacement for Harry Kane.

Sources from Italy claimed a couple of weeks ago that Mourinho could look to take Belotti to Rome.

CalcioMercato have now added that the Portuguese coach was the main driver behind Tottenham’s interest in Belotti last season and his arrival at Roma has put the Serie A giants at the front of the queue for the 27-year-old’s signature.

It is explained that Torino are aware that the striker is unlikely to sign a contract extension with the club and, with his current deal only having 12 months left to run, they will likely have no choice but to cash in on him.

Spurs Web Opinion

Belotti is a striker who is very much in the mould that Mourinho prefers as not only does he find the back of the net with regularity but he is also unselfish and provides a focal point up front for the side to play off.

So, I am not surprised that the former Spurs boss has his eye on the Torino star. If we manage to keep Kane, I do not see how we would be able to convince Belotti to come to the club and play second fiddle to the England captain.
