Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley, but they face competition from other clubs in England, Spain, Germany, and now AS Roma have joined the fight for his signature.

Matt O’Riley has previously played under Ange Postecoglou

O’Riley was born and raised in London and came through the Fulham academy but he was released by the Cottagers in the summer of 2020.

From there, he had to wait over half a year before being picked up by MK Dons, but just a year later he signed for Celtic.

The Danish international has now racked up 121 appearances for the Scottish side, scoring 27 goals and contributing 34 assists (Transfermarkt), and is now a three-time SPL champion.

Interestingly, it was Spurs boss, Ange Postecoglou, who initially brought O’Riley to Glasgow. Now, it seems the Australian is keen to sign O’Riley again, though West Ham are also thought to be keen (GiveMeSport).

Matt O’Riley has interest from a number of clubs

That report claimed O’Riley is eager to test himself in the Premier League, but it now appears he could have a number of different destinations across Europe to choose from this summer.

That’s according to Lyall Thomas as part of Sky Sports’ Transfer Centre, with the revelation that AS Roma are now keeping an eye on O’Riley’s situation, along with four other sides.

It is believed Roma would “need to sell at least one player to be able to fund a potential deal.”

The report adds that a Bundesliga side competing in the Champions League next season are on the list, as are two Premier League teams, and Atletico Madrid.

Spurs Web Opinion

Matt O’Riley is a very good player, and the fact he has that relationship with Postecoglou from before would definitely give us an edge in any transfer battle I think.

Whether he’s the player we want this summer or not, I don’t know, but I think he would be a surprise success in the Premier League.

Tottenham fans will want to see the club bringing in players who are practically guaranteed to improve our starting eleven and will hopefully be targeting more established players than O’Riley as their primary transfer targets.
