Report: Roma make fresh approach for Toby Alderweireld

Toby Alderweireld is still reported to be attracting interest during the current transfer window.

Italian news outlet Gazzetta dello Sport are reporting that Roma are still keen to bring the Tottenham Hotspur defender to Serie A.

The report claims that Roma have increased their offer to €20million plus bonuses which is lower than the amount which the Belgian was recently available for.

Alderweireld’s contract contained a clause which could have seen him depart North London for just £25million up until July 26th, but somewhat remarkably no club decided to take advantage of the cut-price valuation (Telegraph).

The 30-year-old is now within the last twelve months of his contract at Tottenham with the Daily Mail recently claiming that the former Ajax man is preparing to run down his contract in order to net a lucrative free transfer next summer.

Spurs are already said to have had a contract offer worth around £150,000-a-week rejected by Alderweireld and the club must now decide whether they cash in or watch him leave the club for nothing at the end of the campaign.
