Report: Cristian Romero getting ‘closer and closer’ to Spurs move

TuttoMercatoWEb have revealed that Tottenham and Atalanta are now finally close to agreeing on a fee of €57m including bonuses (£48.7m) for the transfer of Cristian Romero.

The two clubs have been locked in negotiations for Romero over the past few weeks and it was reported on Sunday that there was still a substantial gap between their valuations of the centre-back.

However, Football.London’s Alasdair Gold revealed some positive news this morning by reporting that Spurs were closing in on the 23-year-old after agreeing on a fee of around £42.7m for the centre-back.

The journalist insisted that Spurs were confident of getting the deal over the line once Atalanta secure a replacement.

TMW have now also backed up Gold’s claim by revealing that Romero is getting ‘closer and closer’ to a move to Spurs, with only ‘the last details’ now left to be sorted.

The report however quotes a different fee than the one reported by Gold, asserting instead that Tottenham will pay €50m (£42.7m) plus €5m (£4.2m) in bonuses and an additional €2m (£1.7m) which is related to the club winning trophies.

Spurs Web Opinion

Spending close to £50m on Romero is certainly a surprise considering that we have not been able to cash in on many of our deadwood so far. The reported fee would make the Argentine our second most expensive transfer following Tanguy Ndombele.
