Report: ‘Rotten’ – What sources from the Tottenham dressing room are saying

According to a report from The Athletic, sources in the Tottenham Hotspur dressing room have described the mood as ‘rotten’ and suggested things are even worse with Antonio Conte now than at the end of Jose Mourinho’s tenure at the club.

Conte took over at Tottenham in November 2021 and presided over a successful and hugely positive first season, leading the club to a fourth-placed finish and securing Champions League football.

This season has been a different story, with the team struggling to put together a consistent run of results and regularly turning in dour performances.

The latest of such performances saw Spurs throw away a two-goal lead against struggling Southampton.

The game ended 3-3 and Conte did not hold back in his post-match press conference, describing his players as ‘selfish’ and criticising the club’s owners (Football.London).

The 53-year-old is currently back in his native Italy during the international break but it is thought he may lose his job by the end of the week (Telegraph).

Now, sources within the Tottenham dressing room have anonymously shared their insights into the mood at the club, and it sounds like things have hit an all-time low.

The report claims Conte’s “relentless public criticism” has caused the mood to “deteriorate” very quickly and also “eroded all goodwill” he had already earned from last season’s achievements.

Apparently, players have become “fed up” with the “repetitive training and restrictive tactics” put in place by Conte.

When speaking to sources, the words “toxic” and “rotten” were used to describe the environment at Tottenham.

It has even been suggested that things have gotten “far worse” than at the end of Mourhinho’s tenure.

It is noted that even Mourinho was not as “brutally” forthright and public in his criticisms of the players.

Instead, the team have regressed and we are now in another mess that needs fixing immediately.
