Report: Rumoured Spurs and Newcastle target verbally agrees move to Serie A

Rumoured Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United target Sven Botman has verbally agreed to join AC Milan, according to Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

Last month, the Daily Star claimed that Tottenham were intent on beating Newcastle to land the Lille centre-back this summer.

Newcastle co-owner Amanda Staveley revealed in a recent interview with The Athletic that Botman ‘desperately wanted to come’ to St James’ Park during the January transfer window but found Lille unwilling to enter into talks.

The report claims that Botman has agreed a five-year deal with the Serie A giants worth £2.5million per season plus bonuses and the two clubs now need to finalise a deal which could be worth around £25million.

Mundo Deportivo reported earlier this week that Tottenham had decided to priortise a move for RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol, ahead of Botman and Villarreal’s Pau Torres.

Tottenham desperately need to bring in a left-sided central defender this summer with Ben Davies proving that he is extremely limited with his capabilities to operate within the demands that Antonio Conte expects from his side.

Botman would have been a good option given his pace, however the prospect of challenging for a Serie A title and Champions League football compared to what Spurs can offer at this time is not really a difficult decision.
