Report: Rumoured Spurs target has agreed to join another Premier League club

The Sun have revealed that Sporting Lisbon midfielder Joao Palhinha, who was rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar, has agreed to join Wolves.

Tottenham’s offer for Palhinha was reportedly rejected by Sporting Lisbon last summer (Daily Star) and the North London club were initially backed to reignite their interest in the Portugal international 12 months on (Record).

Jeunes Footeux reported last month that Spurs were facing competition from Wolves for Palhinha while the likes of Bayer Leverkusen, Atletico Madrid and Napoli were also credited with an interest in the 26-year-old (A Bola – 23/05/22 via Sport Witness).

The Sun have now stated that the Sporting star looks set to be on his way to Molineux Stadium, with the West Midlands club said to be closing in on a £20m deal for the midfielder.

The report explains that Palhinha was holding out for a move to Manchester United this summer but, with interest from the Red Devils not forthcoming, the midfielder has agreed to join Bruno Lage’s side.

The Sun claim that Palhinha is expected to replace Ruben Neves, who is attracting interest from Man Utd and Barcelona.

Spurs Web Opinion

Despite Tottenham trying to sign Palhinha last summer on the back of his impressive showing in the Euros, it seems like the club’s interest in the 26-year-old had cooled. The fact that Spurs did not move for the midfielder despite the modest transfer fee being reported suggests that Conte did not fancy the Sporting star as much as Nuno perhaps did.
