Report: Rumoured Spurs target has ‘agreement in principle’ with Bundesliga side

If the latest reports coming out of France are to be believed, it looks as if Tottenham’s pursuit of Dayot Upamecano could be over as the Leipzig star has agreed to join Bayern Munich in the summer.

Upamecano’s stellar performances for Leipzig at the back this season have reportedly attracted the attention of several clubs across Europe (France Football).

Jose Mourinho was reportedly keen on bringing the defender to North London this summer as he attempts to rebuild Tottenham’s defence (Don Balon).

Other English clubs, including Manchester United (Express) and Arsenal (Daily Star), were also said to hold an interest in the Frenchman.

Foot Mercato reported last week that Upamecano would prefer a move to Bayern Munich in the summer, and it looks as if the centre-back is going to get his wish.

Soccer Link in France now report that the 21-year-old has an agreement in principle with the Bavarians over a transfer. He is currently said to be negotiating with Leipzig to have his release clause of €58 million lowered after he conveyed his intention to join Bayern ‘at all costs’.

Spurs Web Opinion

We were always going to find it difficult to land Upamecano given the amount of interest he is generating from across Europe. Besides, I get the feeling that centre-back is not one of Jose Mourinho’s priorities to address this summer and we are likely to end up with a stop-gap like Chris Smalling rather than someone who can improve our starting eleven substantially.
