Report: Rumoured Spurs target has told current club that he wants to leave

Celtic centre-back, Kristoffer Ajer, who is said to be a target for Tottenham this summer, has told the Scottish giants that he wants to leave the club, according to reports from Italy.

The central defender has been a consistent performer since joining Celtic from Norwegian side IK Start as a free agent in 2016, but he arguably took his game to a new level this season.

The 22-year-old has been one of the best centre-halves in Scotland throughout the 2019/20 campaign and his performances seem to have attracted considerable interest.

Sporten reported last month that Tottenham were said to be considering a move for the Norwegian international in the summer. Calcio Mercato now reports that AC Milan are also keen on the defender but face a massive hurdle in landing him.

It is revealed that, although Ajer has told Celtic that he would like to leave the club this summer, AC Milan are not in a position to afford the Scottish club’s asking price.

While the price isn’t mentioned in the report, it is asserted that Leicester are also interested in singing Ajer this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

While Ajer has had a solid season, the step up from Scottish football to the Premier League is quite considerable and so it might be a massive risk to sign him. I suspect our name is being thrown in the mix just because our need for a central defender is well publicised. I doubt if Ajer is actually an option we are looking at.
