Report: Rumoured Spurs centre-back target set to sign new deal

Rumoured Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Piero Hincapie has agreed on a new deal with Bayer Leverkusen, according to Football Insider.

Italian news outlet Calciomercato reported late last month that the central defender continues to be of interest to Tottenham while Milan, Napoli and AS Roma have all also sent scouts to watch the Ecuadorian in action this season.

The report claims that the German outfit have moved quickly to fend off the prospect of his exit after Spurs’ managing director of football Fabio Paratici recently made contact with the 20-year-old’s representatives.

Hincapie is said to have agreed to a new deal in principle which could be announced soon.

The 21-cap Ecuador international has started all but two games for Leverkusen this season and is expected to represent his country at the World Cup in Qatar later this year.

Tottenham need to focus on other areas rather than a central defender with a creative midfielder surely being a priority for this winter’s transfer window.

Antonio Conte’s side looked devoid of any inspiration during Saturday’s defeat to Arsenal and the wing-back positions are also more of a concern than the central defenders.
