Report: Scouts from Spurs were in attendance for Porto’s clash with Sporting

According to A Bola (22/04/22 as relayed by Sport Witness), scouts from Tottenham were in attendance for the second leg of the Taca de Portugal semi-final between Porto and Sporting Lisbon.

Toni Martinez’s late strike helped Porto overcome their rivals 1-0 on the night and book their place in the final of the competition.

A Bola have now revealed scouts from Spurs were in attendance at the Estadio do Dragao, and were joined by representatives from Manchester United, Wolves, Southampton, Atletico Madrid and Montpellier.

The report does not mention who the aforementioned clubs were scouting but the North Londoners have been credited with an interest in a couple of players who were involved in the match.

Spurs reportedly had offers rejected by Sporting for midfielder Joao Palhinha last summer (Daily Star) and they have been backed to reignite their interest in the Portugal international this summer (Record).

His teammate Matheus Nunes is also rumoured to be on the Lilywhites’ radar, with O Jogo (14/02/22) claiming last month that Antonio Conte’s men had enquired about the 23-year-old’s availability.

With recent reports indicating that Conte wants to add two midfielders to his squad this summer (Telegraph), Spurs could have possibly been scouting Palhinha or Nunes. However, that does not necessarily mean that the club are likely to bid for either player.
