Report: Second former Spurs player is linked with Saudi move after Matt Doherty

Lucas Moura may well be playing football in Saudi Arabia next season as offers come in for the player upon his release from Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

The Brazilian winger brought his time in North London to an end recently after five-and-a-half-years at Tottenham.

Moura made 221 appearances for Spurs over the years, scoring 39 goals and registering 27 assists (Transfermarkt).

Moura ended his Spurs career in style with a magnificent solo effort on the final day of the season. Indeed, the 30-year-old leaves the club with some brilliant memories, most notably his hat trick in the Champions League semi-final win over Ajax in 2019.

Speculation has been rife over where Lucas Moura will play football next season. There has been some talk of him remaining in the Premier League, with Crystal Palace thought to be interested (GiveMeSport).

The player himself ruled out a return to his native Brazil (AS), while a report from Marca earmarked Mexican side FC Monterrey as a possible destination.

Two Saudi clubs are talking to Lucas Moura

Now, the latest from Brazilian outlet UOL suggests Moura has been attracting interest from Saudi Arabia, with two unnamed clubs thought to be talking to the player about a move there this summer.

Apparently, Moura now “progresses in talks” with two clubs from the Saudi league, and it is believed one is “more advanced than the other.”

The report claims the Brazilian will be offered a “long-term contract,” expected to be over two years. It is also suggested that Moura would then set his sights on a move to the MLS after spending some time in Saudi Arabia.

This comes after reports that Matt Doherty is also in talks over a potential Saudi move, after having left Tottenham in January (Fabrizio Romano).

Spurs Web Opinion

I wouldn’t blame Moura for taking a big offer to play in Saudi Arabia for a couple of years.

He is coming to the end of his career, and while I think he could still do a job at a decent team in Europe, the payday being offered here might suit a player like Moura.
