Report: Senior Premier League source claims current season unlikely to be completed

Tottenham Hotspur are currently eighth in the Premier League and there may be no movement in that for the rest of the season, according to one senior source.

Sky Sports News have reported that a senior source within the Premier League has informed them that they believe there is a 75% chance the current season will be abandoned.

Of course, not finishing the season would raise a number of questions. Who wins the title? Who gets relegated? Who finishes in the top four? Who is promoted to the Premier League?

This all comes after the Premier League was suspended until April 4 earlier this follow, following the rapid spread of the coronavirus around the UK and Europe (BBC).

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, as well as a number of players and staff members from Premier League clubs, have already tested positive for the virus.

The Sky Sports source claims that they believe the suspension will go on for months: “I can’t see any chance we will be back in three weeks. This will go on for months and you wonder even about the start of next season.

“I’d say there is a 75 per cent chance the season will not be completed. There are huge questions to answer. Does anybody get promoted or relegated?

“Many clubs in all four divisions will struggle financially.”
