Report: Senior Spurs players fear club is heading backwards under Jose Mourinho

Jose Mourinho is facing growing unrest from Tottenham’s squad with senior players reportedly unhappy with the 56-year-old’s tactics ( The Sun).

It has been two months since Mourinho arrived in North London replacing Mauricio Pochettino.

Although the results initially improved under the Portuguese, a poor string of performances over the last few weeks have raised some big question marks.

The Sun claims that some senior players in the Tottenham squad already believe the team has regressed under Mourinho due to his old school tactics and are going backwards compared to the innovative sessions which Pochettino implemented during his five and a half year stint in charge.

It is also suggested that the players are finding the training sessions uninspiring as there is said to have an over-emphasis on long balls, flick-ons and throw-ins which have been compared to sessions from lower down in the footballing pyramid.

It is also revealed that some Spurs stars sympathise with Tanguy Ndombele over the way Mourinho publicly criticised the midfielder over the past few weeks (The Sun).

The report suggests that some players believe the 23-year-old’s mindset has been damaged by the Spurs boss’ comments and fear that he has already been ‘lost’.

Spurs Web Opinion

We must take this report with a pinch of salt given that the obviously unreliable source. It is very much possible that it was a disgruntled player like Danny Rose who leaked these ‘details’ to the publication. From the effort that the players are putting in on the field, it is apparent that they have bought into Mourinho’s ideas.
