Report: Serge Aurier in advanced talks with potential new club

Former Tottenham Hotspur defender Serge Aurier is in advanced talks over a move to Villarreal, according to French news outlet L’Equipe.

The Ivory Coast international saw his contract in North London mutually terminated just a matter of hours before the summer transfer window closed (Spurs official).

The 28-year-old had less than a year to run on his deal with Spurs and his departure as a free agent allows him to join his next club outside of the transfer window.

L’Equipe claim that Aurier is currently in Spain to discuss the final details of his contract where he would link up with former Spurs defender Juan Foyth at the La Liga outfit.

Aurier joined Tottenham in August 2017 from Paris Saint-Germain and went on to make 110 appearances in all competitions, scoring eight goals (transfermarkt).

The defender had also been linked with a move to Real Madrid (El Chiringuito) following an injury sustained by Dani Carvajal.

Aurier needs to bite the bullet and pick his next club, rather than sit on the sidelines having already missed the opening few weeks of the new campaign.

Spurs fans would have been left impressed with the performance of his replacement, Emerson Royal against Aston Vila yesterday with the Brazilian putting in his best display since swapping the Nou Camp for the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
