Report: Serge Aurier remains on the radar of European giant

According to reports from Italy, Tottenham defender Serge Aurier is still on AC Milan’s radar with the Serie A side looking to strengthen their defence this summer.

Aurier admitted to coming close to quitting Tottenham last summer (Bal des Productions) after failing to make the right-back spot his own in his first two seasons in North London.

AC Milan were one of the clubs who were said to be interested in signing him last summer (Sport Mediaset) but the Italians ultimately failed in their pursuit.

The Ivorian has found himself becoming first choice at right-back under Jose Mourinho and is the club’s only senior option in the position following Kyle Walker-Peters’ loan switch to Southampton in January.

He admitted two months ago in an interview with France Football that he is much happier in North London now that he is playing more games, while Foot Mercato revealed in January that the Ivory Coast international is ready to sign a contract extension at the club after turning around his fortunes with the Champions League finalists.

Tuttosport (via Milan News) now claim that Milan could return for Aurier’s services this summer.

The Italian giants are said to be on the lookout for a new right-back with Aurie reportedly one of the three options they have identified along with Lille’s Zeki Celik and Everton’s Djibril Sidibe.

Spurs Web Opinion

I suspect Tuttosport are just basing this report on Milan’s previous interest in Aurier. While I do expect Tottenham to be in the market for a right-back this summer, there is no chance that Mourinho will want to let Aurier leave this summer. I also don’t think Milan will be in a position to pay Spurs’ asking price for the defender even if Jose decides to move him on.
