Report: Serie A club are already working on a deal to sign Tottenham star

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, AC Milan have already started working on a deal to sign Steven Bergwijn this summer.

Bergwijn struggled for a run of starts under Antonio Conte in the Italian’s first couple of months in charge and looked like he could be on his way out in January, with Ajax reportedly in talks with Spurs over a deal for the winger during the window (The Sun).

However, the 24-year-old ended up staying put in North London, potentially because of the late heroics he produced to help the Lilywhites turn around that result at the King Power Stadium.

The Netherlands international might have been hoping to get more game time in the second half of the season but he only seems to have fallen further down Conte’s pecking order after the arrival of Dejan Kulusevski from Juventus.

Italian journalist Carlo Laudisa said on Carlo Pellegatti’s YouTube channel last month that Milan could enter the race for the Tottenham man in the summer.

This has now been backed up by Gazzetta, who reveal the Rossoneri are now working on a deal to sign Bergwijn.

The report claims that Milan are aware that Spurs want to move on several players in the summer and are hoping to swoop for the former PSV Eindhoven man.

Spurs Web Opinion

Bergwijn looks certain to depart in the summer, particularly given the impact that Dejan Kulusevski has had at Spurs.

The 24-year-old clearly seems to have the technical and physical attributes to be a top player but he seems to lack a killer instinct in the final third that the likes of Son have.

Having said that, I would not be surprised if the Netherlands international thrives in the Serie A next season and reaches double digits in terms of goals.
