Report: Serie A club are ‘ready to take’ Spurs player when January window opens

AS Roma Live have claimed that the Giallorossi expect Tottenham Hotspur to offload Eric Dier in January.

It has been widely reported over the last couple of weeks that Dier, whose contract at Tottenham runs out next summer, is of interest to Roma and Sporting Lisbon in January (Mirror).

In fact, some reports from Italy over recent weeks have stated that the Tottenham man is Jose Mourinho’s number-one target and that the former Spurs head coach has even reached out to the Englishman regarding a switch to the Stadio Olimpico (TMW).

However, Calciomercato suggested last week that Roma are being met with ‘resistance’ from Spurs in their pursuit of Dier following Micky van de Ven’s injury, and have thus been forced to consider other alternatives.

Roma expect Eric Dier to leave Spurs in January

AS Roma Live have now contradicted that claim, stating that the Italian club are of the belief that the centre-back staying at Tottenham beyond January is ‘rather difficult’.

They back up what we have heard from other sources by stating that of the various profiles that the club have reviewed, the Tottenham man is ‘at the top’ of Mourinho’s wishlist.

That is why the Serie A giants are ‘ready to take him’ when the transfer window reopens.

Spurs Web Opinion

While Dier’s preference appears to be to leave on a free transfer next summer, I do feel he might be tempted to take any good opportunity that opens up in January. A switch to Roma could appeal to the 29-year-old, who has the attributes to be successful in the Italian top flight.
