Report: Serie A club confident of winning race for rumoured Spurs target

CalcioMercato have revealed that AC Milan have made plenty of progress in their pursuit of Lille centre-back Sven Botman, who is also thought to be on Tottenham’s radar.

Signing a left-sided centre-back is thought to be a priority for Spurs in the summer, with Botman reportedly to be one of the names who ranks high on the North London club’s wishlist (The Telegraph).

Antonio Conte is said to be a fan of the Lille centre-back (Daily Star), whose reputation has blossomed since he moved to Ligue 1 in the summer of 2020.

90 min claimed earlier this month that AC Milan were keen on signing the Netherlands international while The Times reported recently that Newcastle United were also readying an offer for the centre-back ahead of the summer.

CalcioMercato have now asserted that Milan are not ‘scared’ by the offers from the Premier League for Botman and remain confident of winning the race for the player.

The report adds that negotiations between the Rossoneri and Lille for the centre-back are ‘well underway’, with only ‘the last details’ left to be sorted out.

Botman would fit the bill perfectly for what we need at left centre-back, given his attributes and his age.

However, if it is true that Milan are in advanced negotiations for the 22-year-old, that suggests that the Dutchman is not at the top of Conte’s and Paratici’s wishlist.

If Conte was desperate for the Lille star, one would expect Spurs to have made contact with Lille regarding the player.
