Report: Serie A club confirm signing of Spurs-linked attacker

Fiorentina have confirmed that they have completed the signing of rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Nicolas Gonzalez from Stuttgart.

After spearheading Stuttgart’s promotion back to the Bundesliga in the 2019/20 season, Gonzalez scored 6 goals and registered 2 assists in an injury-hit season that saw him make just 15 league appearances last time out.

The Argentine was rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar ahead of the January transfer window (David Ornstein) and the North London club had been backed to make a move for him this summer (Gianluca Di Marzio via Fabrizio Romano).

Sky Italia reported back in June that Tottenham were willing to meet Stuttgart’s asking price of €25m (£21.5m) upfront with a further €4m (£3.5m) in bonuses after the German club had rejected Fiorentina’s offer, which fell short of that amount.

However, the Viola have now hammered out an agreement with Stuttgart for the transfer for the 23-year-old.

According to reports, the fee agreed between the two clubs for Gonzalez is thought to be €27 m including bonuses (£23m).

Spurs Web Opinion

Even if Gonzalez was on Tottenham’s radar, I suspect the club’s interest in the Argentine would have ended the moment they secured Bryan Gil’s signature. I cannot see Spurs signing another wide player this summer unless we sell one of Moura or Bergwijn.
