Report: Serie A club could cash in on one of their star Spurs-linked players in January

Inter Milan could be reportedly set to cash in on one of their four star players in January which includes rumoured Tottenham targets Milan Skriniar and Lautaro Martinez, according to the print edition (06/10) of Gazzetta dello Sport (as relayed by The Daily Express).

Skriniar was heavily linked with a move to Tottenham during the summer of 2020 but the North London club were unable to get the deal over the line.

The centre-back was said to be once again on Spurs’ radar this summer, with Gianluca di Marzio claiming that Fabio Paratici was keen on snapping up the 26-year-old but the defender once again remained at the San Siro.

Spurs also reportedly tried in vain to land Martinez this summer, with Alasdair Gold revealing in August that the North London club had initially agreed on a €60m (£50.9m) fee for the Argentine.

However, the journalist explained that the deal fell through following Romelu Lukaku’s move to Chelsea, with Inter no longer needing the funds from the 24-year-old’s sale.

Gazzetta have now reported that despite cashing in on some of their big assets in the summer, the Nerazzurri still need to find around £85m to balance the books.

It is suggested that the easiest way for them to do that would be to cash in one of their prized assets.

Along with Skriniar and Martinez, the report also names Alessandro Bastoni and Nicolo Barella as two other players the reigning Serie A champions could decide to put up for sale.

Spurs Web Opinion

Given that Martinez is thought to be close to signing a new deal at Inter, it appears unlikely that the Argentine would be sold in January. I would not be surprised if Paratici puts in a bid for Barella but it remains to be seen if the Italian international would be tempted by the prospect of joining Spurs as he is likely to attract interest from several top clubs.
