Report: Serie A club could reignite interest in Spurs defender

According to CalcioMercato, AC Milan could reignite their interest in Tottenham defender Serge Aurier after facing a setback in their efforts to sign Diogo Dalot.

Aurier has just 12 months left to run on his contract and the right-back has admitted that he has come to the end of a cycle and is looking to leave the club this summer.

The 28-year-old was previously linked with a return to Paris Saint-Germain but that door has now seemingly closed after the Ligue 1 club’s capture of Achraf Hakimi.

AC Milan have also been credited with an interest in the Ivory Coast international but some sources indicated at the start of the month that the Rossoneri were exploring other alternatives, including Manchester United’s Diogo Dalot.

CalcioMercato have now claimed that Milan are finding negotiations for Dalot to be complicated as Manchester United are not prepared to loan the Portuguese international out again.

It is explained that Milan could thus turn their attention to Aurier, who they showed interest in last summer as well.

According to the report, the Serie A giants are yet to contact Tottenham regarding Aurier but they could make an approach in the ‘weeks to come’ as the profile of the Spurs star fits what they are after.

Spurs Web Opinion

It remains to be seen if Tottenham will sign an out and out right-back to replace Aurier even if they are successful in their pursuit of Takehiro Tomiyasu.

My gut feeling is that we will look to snap up someone like Aarons as I expect Nuno to employ his favoured back three next season.

So, if Tomiyasu does arrive, the Japanese international will likely be competing with Japhet Tanganga for the right-centre-back role.
