According to a report from Tuttomercatoweb, Atalanta have now entered the race for rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Takehiro Tomiyasu.
Tomiyasu has settled seamlessly into the Serie A since his move from Belgian side Sint-Truiden back in 2019.
The Japanese international has hardly put a foot wrong in his two seasons at Bologna and his performances have seemingly caught the eye of several clubs, including Tottenham.
Sky Sports reported a few days ago that Spurs’ managing director football, Fabio Paratici was in talks with Bologna over a deal for the centre-back.
TMW now claim that Atalanta are also trying to seal a deal for the Bologna defender.
However, it is explained that Gian Piero Gasperini’s side are not willing to meet the €20m (£17m) asking price for Tomiyasu, which might allow Spurs to swoop for the defender.
The 22-year-old could potentially help bolster two problem positions for Spurs as he has also fared competently at right-back for Bologna when he has been deployed in the position.
Spurs Web Opinion
One can see the appeal of Tomiyasu for Spurs given his ability to play as a centre-back and a right-back, and Bologna’s relatively low asking price. However, he is certainly not a name who is likely to excite Spurs fans as much as the likes of Jules Kounde.
