Report: Serie A club ‘fear’ Spurs could poach midfielder amidst contract standoff

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Inter Milan fear that rumoured Tottenham target Marcelo Brozovic may leave the club as negotiations over a new contract have now stalled.

Brozovic was a key component of Antonio Conte’s side at Inter and the new Tottenham head coach is alleged to have asked the North London club to snap up the experienced midfielder.

The Croatian international’s current deal at the San Siro runs out at the end of the season and, when asked about signing a potential renewal, the midfielder’s agent simply responded two weeks ago: “We’ll see.”

TMW have now revealed that there remain some ‘key hurdles’ in the negotiations between Brozovic’s entourage and the Inter hierarchy.

The report claims that the Nerrazuri have offered the midfielder terms of around €5m (£4.2m) per season but the player is thought to be demanding €6m (£5m).

It is explained that discussions have thus been postponed for the moment and Inter are fearful that either Tottenham, Manchester United or Paris Saint-Germain could offer Brozovic the salary he wants.

Spurs Web Opinion

I personally believe that a dynamic midfielder like Kessie would be a bigger priority for Conte than a pivot like Brozovic as both Skipp and Hojbjerg can play that role reasonably well. A lot will also depend on how the likes of Ndombele, Dele and Lo Celso fare under the new set-up at Spurs.
