Report: Serie A club hope to keep Spurs target but won’t find it ‘easy’

CalcioMercato have revealed that Juventus have set up a meeting with the representatives of rumoured Tottenham target Adrien Rabiot to discuss a new contract and Serie A giants expect the negotiations to be difficult.

Rabiot has been in excellent form for club and country since the start of the season, and with the midfielder now entering the final six months of his contract at Juve (Transfermarkt), there has unsurprisingly been plenty of speculation about his future.

Spurs are one of the clubs to be credited with an interest in the Frenchman, with TMW claiming a couple of weeks ago that the Lilywhites are ‘moving decisively’ to snap up the midfielder.

CalcioMercato have now revealed that the Juventus hierarchy have scheduled a meeting with the player’s mother and agent, Veronique Rabiot, to explore the possibility of extending his deal.

The report adds that the Old Lady will not find it easy to agree on a deal as they are only prepared to offer the midfielder a salary of €7m (£6.2m) per year plus bonuses along with a guarantee that he would be ‘at the centre of’ Massimiliano Allegri’s project.

However, it is said that Rabiot is expected to demand a salary of €10m (£8.8m) per season to sign on the dotted line and Juve’s attempts to tie the former PSG man down is further complicated by the growing interest in his signature, with Barcelona and Bayern Munich joining ‘various top English clubs’ in the race for the midfielder.

A whole host of clubs, including Spurs, would likely be waiting to see how the negotiations between Rabiot and Juve progress over the coming weeks and months. There will certainly be a big scramble to snap up the Frenchman as a free agent next summer if an agreement is not reached.
