Report: Serie A club only willing to sign Spurs star on loan under one condition

Il Mattino have claimed that Napoli would only sign Giovani Lo Celso on loan if Tottenham agree to cover a portion of the midfielder’s salary.

Lo Celso’s three-year spell at Spurs looks set to come to an end this summer, with the Argentine not playing any part in the club’s pre-season plans after returning from his loan spell at Villarreal.

Italian publications have suggested this week that Napoli and Fiorentina continue to have their eyes on the Argentina international (Calciomercato.it).

However, over recent days, it has emerged that Villarreal have stepped up efforts to bring Lo Celso back to El Madrigal.

Marca claimed on Monday that Unai Emery’s men have made an offer to sign Lo Celso on an initial loan deal with an obligation to make it permanent for €15m (£12.5m).

The report suggested that Spurs were looking favourably at the offer, given the 26-year-old’s clear preference to move to the La Liga side over other suitors.

According to Il Mattino’s latest update, Napoli are still eyeing Lo Celso as a potential replacement for Piotr Zielinski, who West Ham United are thought to be keen on snapping up.

However, the report explains that Luciano Spalletti want to sign the former Real Betis man on loan and want Spurs to cover a part of his wages.

Spurs Web Opinion

Spurs will want any loan move for Lo Celso to include an obligation to buy. So, if Napoli only want a loan move, they are probably out of the running for the Argentine. It certainly appears as if a return to Villarreal is the most likely option for the midfielder this summer as things stand.
