Report: Serie A club to prioritise new deal for defender amid Spurs interest

Inter Milan are looking to prioritise a new contract for Milan Skriniar with Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United both said to be both interested in the defender this summer, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Slovakian international is currently under contract at the San Siro until next summer (transfermarkt) with the current Serie A champions looking to tie him to a new deal that will run until 2026 to put off interest from the Premier League pair.

Skriniar revealed last month that he expected Inter to offer him a new contract and he believed he would continue his career at the club (Sport.sk).

Tottenham were heavily linked with a move for the central defender in 2020 but eventually ended up signing Joe Rodon from Swansea City late in the window.

Sky Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio even published photographs showing Tottenham Hotspur’s transfer chief at the time, Steve Hitchen allegedly in Milan holding talks with the Inter star’s agent.

It was reported ahead of the January transfer window that Antonio Conte wanted to reunite with Skriniar at Spurs (CalcioMercato).

Skriniar would be a shrewd signing for Tottenham, however, Inter are unlikely to part company with the defender who seems happy to put pen to paper on a new deal.

A left-sided central defender has to be the priority this summer with RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol, Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni, Lille’s Sven Botman and Freiburg’s Nico Schlotterbeck all more likely candidates to arrive.
